Palau Altea hosts a joint concert by Germany’s Sinfonisches Musikschulorchester Sachsen-Anhalt and Altea’s professional music conservatoire this Saturday, 24 October, at 19:00, with free admission until the venue reaches capacity.
The performance brings together young musicians from Germany and Spain under conductor Alexander Ramm and continues an exchange that the two institutions began in October 2023, when the German orchestra first visited Altea.
Grieg, Dvořák, Arriaga and Falla on the programme
The announced repertoire includes works by Edvard Grieg, Antonín Dvořák, Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga and Manuel de Falla, bringing together Central European Romanticism and the Spanish musical tradition in the joint performance.
The programme is due to conclude with a selection of film music, conservatoire director Jaime F. Ripoll Martins explained during the concert’s presentation alongside representatives of the town council and the German orchestra.
All students belonging to Altea conservatoire’s string orchestra will take part, with their director highlighting the demanding nature of the repertoire and the preparation required for the young musicians to perform it.
The project announced a week of joint rehearsals at the conservatoire to prepare for the concert, providing another opportunity for students from the two countries to work together through the exchange.
An exchange that began in 2023
After the German orchestra’s first visit in 2023, students from Altea travelled to Germany in 2024 and 2025; for this 2026 edition, the Sachsen-Anhalt ensemble is returning to Altea.
Marcos Gomis, a musician from Altea who teaches with the German orchestra and coordinates the project, spoke of his excitement at returning to the town where he grew up and studied.
The initiative has the support of the town council, which makes facilities including the conservatoire and Palau Altea available to the project, an arrangement the musical leaders thanked the council for during the presentation.
Culture councillor Pepa V. Pérez and Education and Conservatoire councillor Mari Sastre invited residents to attend a concert that connects musical training with cultural exchange between the participating students from Germany and Spain.
