Orihuela’s PSOE is calling on the PP and Vox municipal government to explain the progress of the expansion of the Centro de Atención Temprana (CAT), an early intervention centre, and provide a clear timetable for the promised improvements.

The Socialist group alleges that the project, presented by the PP in October 2025, remains without the promised building work or additional space for families a year later.

Two adjoining properties awaiting conversion

The Socialists recall the mayor’s announcement of the purchase of two properties adjoining the centre through municipal company Uryula Histórica for €160,000, alongside an estimated €700,000 investment to adapt them.

Councillor Juan Miguel López describes the situation as particularly worrying because the centre provides an essential service for children needing early intervention and for their families.

López recalls that, when the expansion was announced, the council put the CAT’s activity at more than 250 children supported each year and around 11,000 treatment sessions.

The PSOE wants a public account of the steps taken during the year and is also seeking information about the future health and social care complex announced for the former care home.

School air-conditioning concerns

Separately, Socialist councillor María García alleges that at least nine schools have been requesting electrical improvements since July so that classrooms can be air-conditioned under the ‘Confort Térmico’ programme.

García criticises Education Councillor Vicente Pina’s written response for not specifying the municipal action planned, and calls for a meeting with the affected schools to identify their technical needs.

The opposition argues that electrical repairs at municipally owned schools should be managed by the council, and requests technical and legal reports wherever responsibility for inspections or costs is disputed.

The Socialists put the funding allocated to these improvements at €295,500 and demand a schedule of work to prevent that allocation from going unused.

Both demands ask the local government to set out the projects’ position and next steps; the alleged delays and criticism of their management are claims made by the Socialist group.
