Santiago Posteguillo will open the ‘Orihuela Patrimonio Literario’ series on Thursday 29 October at 8pm in the Auditorio de la Lonja in Orihuela, with free admission until the venue reaches capacity.
The Cátedra Oriol at Miguel Hernández University is organising the event in collaboration with Orihuela Town Council, launching a programme devoted to the city’s historical, literary and cultural heritage.
The conversation will be led by Fuensanta Estremera Saura, a teacher of Spanish Language and Literature, and will explore literature, history and the author’s creative process.
A conversation about literature and history
The event will give the public an opportunity to discover Posteguillo’s career and his fictional world, shaped by novels that introduce readers to figures and episodes from antiquity.
The writer holds a European doctorate from the University of Valencia and is a senior lecturer at the Universitat Jaume I in Castellón, an academic role alongside his literary career.
His honours include the Generalitat Valenciana’s 2010 literature award, the 2014 Barcino Historical Novel Prize and the 2018 Premio Planeta for ‘Yo, Julia’.
Julius Caesar and the settings of ‘Los tres mundos’
His fictional account of Julius Caesar’s life continues with ‘Los tres mundos. La conquista de las Galias por Julio César’, following ‘Roma soy yo’ and ‘Maldita Roma’ and completing the so-called Trilogía del Ascenso.
These books form the first cycle of his series about the Roman leader, with the new novel set in the year 58 BC.
The novel links three settings: Caesar’s military campaign in Gaul, intrigue and struggles for power in Rome, and an Egyptian storyline in which Pharaoh Ptolemy XII goes into exile accompanied by his daughter, the future Cleopatra VII.
The opening of the Cátedra Oriol series is intended as a meeting place for authors, readers and people interested in literature, encouraging dialogue between the university, creative practitioners and society.
The event on 29 October is open to the public at the Auditorio de la Lonja; free access is subject to the capacity of the venue.
